Belayer


Overview

As a Belayer, you bring energy, enthusiasm, and leadership to every event. You ensure guests are welcomed, equipped, and excited to climb in a fun and inclusive environment. From check-in to final climb, your positive vibes guide the experience with clear instruction, encouragement, and a passion for group engagement. Your role is key in creating memorable, safe, and high-energy celebrations for all climbers.

Belayer Duties 

PASSION || engaged, dedicated, hard-working, genuine, driven, enthusiastic, inspiring 

- Be a positive representative for Vertical View by cheerfully and enthusiastically welcoming guests!

- Build relationships by interacting with each guest, anticipating and meeting their needs.

- Set the standard for self-motivated effort, positive attitude, and outreach to crew members and guests.

- Have a desire to learn and share climbing knowledge.

- Belay for parties, groups, and youth programs.


AWARENESS || Cooperative, problem-solver, appreciative, personable, good common sense, honest

- Be attentive to customers in a professional and engaging manner.

- Demonstrate strong communication skills and professionally and respectfully resolve conflict.

- Provide safety oversight by staying current on, kindly enforcing, and abiding by all gym rules.

- Set up each group with Clip & Go routes, tables and chairs, games, gear, and introductions.

- Complete the cleaning tasks and assess gym cleanliness issues after each group. 

- Exhibit a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and wise use of time management.

- Ensure critical guest check-in procedures are performed by the FD before taking guests away from the FD.

- Be open to giving and receiving feedback in a professional manner.

- Provide engaging and informative gym orientations for each guest.

- Be versed in risk management and able to offer informed corrections professionally.

- Be a proactive team player who builds a cohesive work environment.

- Ability to adapt to a variety of safety and customer service situations.

Belayer Preferences and Requirements

- Must be available to work 10-15 hours per week, including Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays to support afternoon/evening Youth Program shifts and weekend parties;

- Must be Top Rope Certified at our facility and effectively able to teach a belay class after training.

- Safe Sport Certification required within 30 days of hire (company-sponsored).

- Customer service experience preferred. 

- Physical ability to respond and react quickly and efficiently within the facility.

- Able to perform all movements relating to belaying and belay instruction.

- Participate and show proper climbing technique.  

 - Carry/lift up to 25 pounds; stand/sit/walk for extended periods.

- Physical fitness is required to participate in classes and to show participants proper climbing techniques.

Belayer Pay and Perks

- $11.50/hour plus tips from parties.

Youth Program Schedule

- Monday-Thursday: 4:30pm-6:30pm

Party Schedule

(2 hr parties; scheduled 2.75 hrs)

- Fridays: 4pm; 6:30pm

- Saturdays: 11:00am; 1:30pm: 4pm; 6:30pm

- Sundays: 1:30pm
