Comp Team Coach
Overview
You are a teacher and mentor who enjoys helping young athletes grow. You work alongside the Head Coach and coaching team to deliver engaging practices that build climbing skills, confidence, teamwork, and a love for the sport. Your passion is seen in the encouragement you provide and your ability to help every athlete feel supported, challenged, and included.
Comp Team Coach Duties

Be a positive representative for Vertical View inside and outside the facility
Arrive prepared and actively participate in all assigned practices.
Lead drills, activities, and workouts using the established Comp Team curriculum.
Encourage athletes to work toward their individual and team goals.
Help create an energetic, productive, and welcoming practice environment.
AWARENESS || Cooperative, observant, dependable, personable, good common sense, honest
Maintain awareness of athlete behavior, facility activity, and potential safety concerns.
Follow established practice plans, coaching procedures, and facility standards.
Provide appropriate supervision throughout each practice.
Recognize athlete progress and communicate observations to the Head Coach.
Make sound decisions and ask for assistance when a concern should be handled by the Head Coach or management.
Maintain required USAC and SafeSport certifications.
MENTORSHIP || Welcoming, community centered, supportive, invested, attentive
Provide quality coaching and instruction that supports athlete development.
Demonstrate climbing techniques, drills, and training exercises safely and effectively.
Offer clear, constructive, and encouraging feedback.
Be versed in risk management and provide professional correction when needed.
Support the Head Coach and fellow coaches in creating a cohesive team environment.
Model sportsmanship, responsibility, respect, and a positive attitude.
Preferences and Requirements
Climbing and coaching experience preferred.
USAC Coach Membership or applicable certification required.
SafeSport Certification required within 30 days of hire and company sponsored.
Ability to follow curriculum and direction provided by the Head Coach.
Strong communication, dependability, and group management skills.
Physical ability to respond quickly and efficiently within the facility.
Must be able to demonstrate climbing techniques, belay, participate in training activities, lift up to 25 pounds, and stand, sit, or walk for extended periods.
Must be available for assigned practices and select weekend USAC events during the September through June season.
Parent questions, concerns, and administrative matters should be directed to the Head Coach when appropriate.
Pay and Perks
Approximately 10 + hours per week.
$15 to $16 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
Assigned weekly Comp Team coaching sessions.
Opportunities to attend select USAC competitions and professional development activities.
Company sponsored SafeSport certification and applicable coaching development.
